This is a grave stone in Chestertown, on the Maryland Eastern Shore. A number of stones are similar
to this one, made in cast concrete with tiles and marbles arranged
in mysterious ways. As with many other stones, there are no names.
While it is called locally the paupers graveyard, it is really a graveyard
of a church which no longer appears to be active, but which is located
at the edge of the graveyard. If you could hear what I heard when
I took this photo, you'd hear the persistent crickets of a late summer
day. The dry cricket song of eternity.
This is a tri-tone image, composed of three monochrome channels,
one black and two with varying shades of brown. This is similar to
chemical toning but far more controllable.
